Barah Khamba Tomb on Lodhi Road.

Bara Khamba tomb is located in the Nizamuddin heritage area and if you are coming from Humayun Tomb side on Lodhi Road it falls on the left side between Mathura Road and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.
The Bara Khamba Tomb
Bara Khambha means twelve Pillars in Hindi and Urdu and Bara Khambha Tomb is a 14th century tomb building from Lodhi period. This is a tomb of an unknown person, probably a high noble man.
The tomb has 12 pillars and has three arched openings on each side. The verandah, laid around the central chamber has a domed apartment on each of its four corners.
The main central chamber supports a large dome and there are four smaller domes, one each at the four corners of the structure. The central medallion at the inside of the roof was restored during renovation but has started deteriorating again.
The Central Medallion at the roof is showing sign of deterioration again.

The strong pillars of the tomb.

The Front Pillars to the monument.
The Bara Khamba tomb is set within a park. It is sad to note that though the monument has been renovated recently it has become habitation for dogs who disturb the tourists by literally dogging them as if their territory is being threatened. We should do more to preserve our heritage which in this case is about 600 years old.
