Gol Gumbad : Lodhi Road near its intersection with Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.

How many times have we passed Lodhi Road and did we ever notice this 15th-16th century monument which stands on the left, if you are coming from Nizamuddin side and going towards Lodhi Gardens. This tomb is next to Centenary Methodist Church.

.
The Gol Gumbad.
This tomb, called Gol Gumbad belongs to the Lodhi period. This has a square plan and measures 13,5 meters on each side with a recessed arch and central doorway.A staircase on the southern side leads to the terrace. The tomb is constructed of rubble masonry with layer of plaster.
The circular medallion at the center of the ceiling

Calligraphy in stone at the battlement.

A view of the battlement of the Tomb.

The beautiful lattice at the side of the Tomb.
The circular medallion at the center of the domed ceiling is highly ornamental and exemplary artwork. Externally the walls have a slight receding upward slope of walls which is the characteristic of Tughlaq and early Lodhi period monuments. Other feature of this simple yet stout structure is the battlements at the parapet level.
The tomb gets illuminated in the night and looks very elegant. Next time you pass Lodhi road give this monument a few minutes.
